Celebrate Canada Day at the Cannery!

Submitted by L. Franco, Heritage Interpreter

This July 1st, Canada is turning 149 years old, and there’s no better way to celebrate than by visiting a national historic site, so why not stop by the Gulf of Georgia Cannery to soak up the sun, take in some Canadian history and have some fishy fun with your family?

Our site will be open from 10am – 5pm, and admission will be free! Bring the whole family and explore the “Monster Cannery” to learn all about its significant contributions to Canada’s West Coast fishing industry and to Canada’s identity as a country.

In front of the Cannery, in Fisherman’s Park, there will be plenty of fun outdoor activities for younger family members. From a bouncy castle to face painting and some fun carnival games, the little ones are sure to have a great time! The fun continues inside the museum, where kids can explore our many interactive exhibits, and will also have the chance to get creative with a multitude of fishy-themed crafts.

And while you’re in Steveston Village, make sure to catch the annual Salmon Festival and Parade – Canada’s “biggest little birthday party”!
