Celebrating Canadian Citizenship at the Cannery
On October 14 this year, the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site was the host venue for a Canadian Citizenship Ceremony and round table session for new citizens. The event was organized by Institute for Canadian Citizenship, and appropriately took place during Canada’s Citizenship Week.
The round table session took place inside the historic cannery, where new citizens and guests were invited to discuss their stories on becoming a Canadian citizen. It was then followed by the citizenship ceremony, held in the Cannery’s Boiler House Theatre, and attended by the Cannery’s society Chair Dave Semple, and local MP Joe Peschisolido. It was a great honour to be able to share this special day with our new citizens, and how fitting it was to hold this celebration at the Cannery, which once was the workplace for men and women from different corners of the world, a hundred years ago.
