What’s a visit to the Cannery without a photo taken with these three familiar figures? The¬†iconic¬†Steveston Legacy statues have stood guard in front of the Cannery since 2009, and¬†have been the photo subject of many Instagrams and Tweets.

Created by sculptor Norm Williams, the three¬†represent individuals from the fishing industry, in a scene reminiscent of¬†Steveston’s waterfront, circa 1930’s.

The statues are a true example of a community effort, the creation of which was sponsored by a group of local organizations and individuals, including the Steveston Rotary, Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society, Steveston Harbour Authority, Steveston High School Alumni Association and Steveston Community Society, just to name a few.

If you would like to have¬†a say about this kind of public art in Steveston’s waterfront area, take a few minutes to respond to the City of Richmond’s¬†Public Art Program Survey;¬†your input may help to shape the future look and feel of the public spaces around the Cannery and its neighbours!
