Fisherman’s Park art mural
Sunday December 6th, was a busy day around the Cannery! The indoor winter Cannery Farmers’ Market was a-buzz with holiday shoppers, and Santa sailed into Steveston, with a stop at the Cannery for an afternoon of photos and visits with the little ones.
At 12 noon, just around the corner from the Cannery, there was an official ‘unveiling’ of the new public art mural in Fisherman’s Park, at the corner of Third Avenue and Moncton Street. The mural is a result of a partnership between the Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society, Steveston Harbour Authority, Steveston Historical Society, and Richmond Arts Council, with the support of the City of Richmond and Benjamin Moore Paints. Representatives from the partner organizations and the City of Richmond shared a few words to commemorate the long-awaited reveal of the new mural. For more information about the mural and its artist, please visit these links: Steveston Harbour Authority Facebook post & Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society press release.
Be sure to visit the mural to see it for yourself; we certainly think it brightens up our little corner of the village, and look forward to seeing more new murals as the project continues into 2016.
