Community Mapping and Oral History Workshop

slider5-new1

On Monday May 2, the Cannery will be hosting two workshops presented by representatives from the Landscapes of Injustice  project – a seven-year, multi-sector, interdisciplinary project that aims to uncover and tell the history of displacement and dispossession of Japanese-Canadians  during the Second World War.

The first workshop will be a Community Mapping event that will take place between 10am – 12pm. Community members of all ages and backgrounds are invited to drop into the Cannery and share their memories of life in Steveston. These memories will then be recorded onto a large historic map in order to show how life in the community has changed and evolved over time.

*NOTE: Admission to the Cannery will be FREE for workshop participants*

The second workshop will be a smaller event, primarily for those interested in learning how to conduct their own oral histories within their family groups and communities.   This will be an especially great workshop for anyone that is interested in participating in the Cannery’s own Oral History Project, which is set to get under way this month!
