Taiko drumming at the Pull of the Net celebration
Come celebrate the opening of our new exhibit The Pull of the Net: Commercial Fishing in Canada on Saturday May 6th from 11am to 4pm. Local groups representing the multicultural community of Canada’s fishing industry will be performing, holding workshops and demos, and providing culinary fare at the Pull of the Net: A Multicultural Celebration.
Tetsu Taiko, the first local taiko group formed in Richmond 17 years ago at the Steveston Buddhist Temple, will perform in front of the Gulf of Georgia Cannery entrance at 2pm. Their performance will feature traditional North American and Japanese taiko pieces. Look for other Japanese-Canadian community displays and activities inside the Cannery, including Ikebana, calligraphy and origami. Admission to the event is FREE.
