Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup

The Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup is a grassroots conservation program that the Vancouver Aquarium began in 1994.  Since going national in 2003, the cleanup has seen great success in meeting its goals of promoting understanding and education about shoreline litter issues by engaging Canadians to rehabilitate shoreline areas through cleanups.

Last year’s cleanup covered 2,457 km of Canadian shores and removed 160,914 kg of garbage. Top litter items included cigarettes, food wrappers, bags, beverage cans, and more.

If you would like to be a part of this great event, there are two cleanups happening in Steveston: one at Steveston Dyke on September 18 and the other at Garry Point Park on September 26.  Let’s keep our shores clean!

If you live outside of Steveston, you can search for a cleanup near you!
