Did you know, while at work, cannery workers used sign language to communicate? How much do you think you would cost if you were a load of sockeye salmon in 1952? Just how bad did the Cannery workers smell after being around stinky fish all day?

Find out answers to these questions and more during Spring Break at the Cannery. This year we are hosting a variety of fun and engaging activities for both children and adults.

• Offered on March 14th and 16th only, join our costumed interpreter in the new “CAN you handle it?” tour. Learn first-hand what it was like to be a Cannery worker.
• Try our brand new “Explore the Museum” program, geared toward 6 to 11 year olds. Engaged with questions and activities relating to the site, kids will have fun learning more about the ins-and-outs of the Cannery.
• In the heated alcove area, kids are invited to create their own navigational-themed arts and crafts. They can take part in creating a map of the best salmon and herring fishing spots, learn how to make a compass rose for their maps, and put together small cork boats.
• Parents and kids can join our popular guided tours through the fascinating history of the Cannery, running every hour on the hour.
• There are plenty of hands-on exhibits for the kids to enjoy as they hear tales of BC’s fishing heritage.

March Break activities at the Cannery start this Saturday, March 10th. We look forward to seeing you then!

The Cannery is open daily, from 10 am to 5 pm.
