Photo of the Week

Another Wednesday, another photo – and this week I have what is hopefully an easier one. This photo comes from right here in Steveston, and no, it’s not the Gulf of Georgia Cannery. Take a look and see if you can identify it for us!

Mystery Cannery 3

Taken by former R.C.M.P. officer Alan Sutherland between November 1939 and April 1940, this photograph shows an unidentified cannery in Steveston as viewed from the Fraser River. The machinery on the left side of the picture is likely a fish elevator, used to transport fish from boats outside to fish bins inside the cannery. This black and white photograph measures 2.5 x 3.5 inches and is part of the Alan Sutherland Photograph Collection.

If you can name that cannery for us, please either post a comment or email Rachel.
