2013 Sustainable Living Leadership Program

The Sustainable Living Leadership Program has been deemed “a trip of a lifetime.”  Created as a way to develop awareness about the Fraser River and its ecosystems, the field course invites interested environmentalists, ages 19 to 35, to apply. Running for three weeks, from August 1st to 25th, participants will leave the Fraser River’s headwaters near Valemount and travel by canoe, raft, van and by foot, down the Fraser’s 1,400 kilometres.

Fin Donnelly, MP for New-Westminster-Coquitlam and Port Moody, founded the program, which has been running for ten years. He is also known for swimming across the length of the river, twice, as a way to raise awareness about threats to its ecosystem.

“There is no better way to learn about sustainability than to travel along the river, seeing first hand how the issues affect Fraser River communities,” said Donnelly in a news release.

If you are interested in applying, or know someone who is, applications can be made online at rivershed.com until May 31.
