Earth Day – April 22

As the Gulf of Georgia Cannery has a vested interest in the West Coast fishing industry, naturally we care about the state of our oceans, earth and atmosphere; they are all interconnected. This Sunday, April 22nd, is Earth Day! Take action and make a difference by doing something for our planet.

There are a number of events taking place around the Lower Mainland; find something close to your neighbourhood and participate.

Locally, Richmond is  hosting the REaDY Summit, a conference for local youth and adult environmental stewards on April 21 at Steveston-London Secondary School.

The Richmond Earth Day Youth (REaDY) Summit is a joint initiative by the City of Richmond, Richmond School District and the David Suzuki Foundation. As a youth-led, youth-oriented event, the conference encourages environmental stewardship through motivational speakers and inspiring workshops. This FREE conference is for local and global youth and adult environmental stewards to network in order to share effective practices and problem-solve common challenges.

Keep an eye out for the Gulf of Georgia Cannery’s sustainable seafood temporary exhibit,  Seafood for Thought, opening May 19th.
