Steveston Cares – Japan Tsunami Relief Walk
March 11th will mark one year since the earthquake and tsunami disaster in Japan. The country is still struggling to recover from the resulting losses.
Many Steveston pioneers emigrated from coastal Japan and since then Steveston has maintained strong ties with Japan. This tragedy was felt very closely here.
Last year, the Steveston Rotary Club organized a walk around Steveston as a way to raise funds for a small fishing town on Japan’s coast called Onagawa. The walk was very sucessful and with the generosity of the community, thousands of people came out to participate and over $75,000 was raised.
The need for aid still exists in Japan. Please join Steveston in commemoration and recognition, and participate in the Steveston Rotary’s second annual 1 km fund raiser walk around Steveston on March 25th, from 10 am to 4 pm. Walks start from Fisherman’s Park, in front of the Gulf of Georgia Cannery, hourly.
