On Oct 21st, we visited the Vancouver Maritime Museum for our society’s annual volunteer field trip. The visit focused on their feature exhibit The Lost Fleet, about the history of Japanese-Canadian fishermen in BC, and the stories of the seizure and sale of Japanese-Canadian property and the entire community’s uprooting during World War II.

During the visit, one of our volunteers, Butch Sakiyama, shared his personal stories about living on the west coast during this period. He was later asked by the the museum to share more of his experience as part of the “Lost Fleet Interviews”.
