Fun with Cribbage at the next winter market!

Submitted by Shannon King, Audience Engagement Manager

Do you know what his Nibs and his Nobs are? If you do, you have probably enjoyed a game or two of Cribbage in your time. If not, you can find out at the next Cannery Farmers’ Market on Sunday March, 12. Our very own cribbage enthusiast, Shannon King, will provide cribbage lessons at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. which will include the rules of the game and some simple strategy.

Cribbage is a fun card game where players collect points by combining cards together to make runs or combinations. The first player to reach 121 points wins. Shannon’s grandparents taught her to play cribbage when she was a child and they enjoyed hundreds of games together over the years. It is a social game that can be enjoyed by people of all ages.

Did you know that cribbage was particularly popular during the Second World War? When Shannon was preparing Women on the Homefront exhibit, she thought it would be fun to include a cribbage board on the break room table, as part of the exhibit. Visitors are encouraged to sit and play a round of cards while they ponder women’s roles in the workforce during WWII.

The Women on the Homefront exhibit continues until mid-April.
