Music at the Cannery 2010

We are pleased to announce that the lineup for the 2010 edition of the Music at the Cannery summer series has been finalized! Music at the Cannery, sponsored by G&F Financial Group, is presented in collaboration with The Beat Merchant and the Steveston Folk Guild. The series starts on June 18th with the Dancetime Big Band and continues every Friday night until our last show on September 3rd with Blue Train. Shows start at 6:30 on the Tank Deck but often sell out so be here early to ensure a seat.

In honour of our opening night’s band, I will be teaching an East Coast Swing lesson on June 18th at 6pm to get you ready to dance. Come on out even if you think you have two left feet!

We have a great summer planned and we hope you will join us for the following evenings:

June 18 Dancetime Big Band: Get your feet tappin’ with this 10 piece swing band! They’ll be playing your favourite classic hits all night long!
June 25 Mojo Zydeco: Hot Louisiana dance music. The driving sound will get you up on your feet and smiling.
July 2 Carolyn Mark: Juno Award nominee brings her own brand of alternate country back to the Cannery.
July 9 Gabriel Mark Hasselbach: Smooth jazz musician Gabriel performs songs from his latest CD.
July 16 Sibel Thrasher: A smooth, unforgettable voice, Sibel brings her own brand of classy jazz to Steveston. As Long John Baldry said of her, “Thrasher is a Smasher.”
July 23 Ranj Singh and the Discriminators: “Indo-Folk” combines a vast range of Indian music, some rock ‘n roll, and great guitar melodies.

July 30 The Harpoonist and the Axe Murderer: HAM is a finger-pickin’, foot-stompin’, harp-blowin’, roots blues duo drawing influences from the old masters like Mississippi John Hurt & Muddy Waters.
August 6 Fraser Union: Known for their repertoire of Canadian material, Fraser Union has been a mainstay of the British Columbia folk music scene for many years. Their style runs the range of blues, to songs of West Coast life. Part of the Spirit Fish celebrations for World Peace Day, the performance will be followed by a parade with live music and performances to Garry Point Park.
August 13 Midnight Lightning: Jimi Hendrix Tribute Band will rock Steveston
August 20 The Sumner Brothers: The Sumner Brothers know that “nothing feels better than blood on blood”. This honesty is the bloodline of The Sumner Brothers music. Their music has been described as foot stompin’, rockin’, rustic roots, country-folk and blues.
August 27 Paul O’Brien: An English-born child of Irish immigrants, Paul cut his teeth on Irish music. Accompanying himself on guitar, mandolin and bodhran, Paul will take you on an emotional journey, with the sorrow of injustice in songs from his new CD “Plastic.”
September 3 Blue Train: Electric Blues with a dance edge.

And mark your calendars for the third annual Salmon Stomp on August 8th! We are hard at work finalizing the details and hope to present the lineup for you soon. It’s going to be a great summer! See you at the Cannery!
