Music at the Cannery: the Finale

Our stunning volunteers! From left: Barb, Tom, Anne I., Susan, Audrey, and Anne G.

For the past few years, Music at the Cannery has been a welcome Steveston summer tradition – families, friends, and furry pals all gather on our Tank Deck to enjoy an evening of spectacular local music, by donation. This year was no different – in fact, the concerts were more popular than ever. We ran the series every Friday evening from July 4th to August 29th, rain or shine, and sold out nearly every show this summer. Ranging from blues and jazz, to pop and country, each talented musician brought their own twist to the night and entertained the excited audiences.

Some highlights of this summer include local superstar Charlotte Diamond, who performed timeless classics such as “4 Hugs a Day” and “Je suis un pizza”, which, for most growing up on the West Coast, are familiar childhood ditties not easily forgotten; Gabriel Mark Hasselbach, a JUNO award winning, jazz playing, multi-instrumentalist; and Ralph Shaw, the resident “King of Ukelele”.

The Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society and the Beat Merchant would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all those who made this summer a success – our sponsors: Canada Berries, Cannery Brewing, and the G&F Financial Group; the musicians, for delivering such wonderful shows; our lovely volunteers, without whom we would be completely lost; and finally, to all of those who came out to join us – for without the audience, there would be no Music Night to speak of.

Thank you again – and see you next summer!
