BC First Nation approved to begin wild salmon class-action lawsuit
The Kwicksutaineuk/Ah-Kwa-Mish First Nation (KAFN) will soon be taking the BC Government to court in a class-action lawsuit regarding the destruction of their aboriginal fishing rights supposedly caused by open net-cage salmon farming in their Broughton Archipelago Territories. Certification is an important procedural step that is required before launching a class-action lawsuit; the KAFN recently received approval for certification and are now preparing to launch their case for hopefully quick processing through the judicial system.
Speed is crucial to resolve this matter in light of the rapid decline of wild salmon populations in the Broughton Archipelago.
