Layton Weighs in on BC Salmon
Amongst the outstanding 2010 sockeye run and attention on the Cohen Commission, even party leaders such as the NDP’s Jack Layton wants to speak out about fishing issues. He views the long term decline of salmon and the growth of fish-farming as problems of “very grave concern.” Layton wants to see all branches of government, along with First Nations groups, working to address these issues.
“The first thing that has to be done is that our fisheries department has to start to connect more with what’s really happening on the ground.
