Like Farm to Table? Try Fisherman to Fork

Halibut caught in B.C. waters is tagged with a ThisFish label so it can be traced from fisherman to fork.

Ever wondered where that piece of fish on your plate came from? Thanks to Vancouver non-profit ThisFish, you can now find out exactly where it was caught and who did the catching. The tracing system, featured in the Vancouver Sun, starts with the fisherman and goes all the way to the plate. Fishermen registered with the system tag their catch with a code that can be followed from the boat to the processor, distributor and retailer. Customers can find the code on product labels and packaging, which they in turn can use to look up their dinner through ThisFish. Apparently, one can even send the fisherman a thank you note!
