The Fabric of our Community

A new display was recently installed inside the Cannery (just across from the Oral History exhibit alcove), with two beautifully woven pieces, created by the Richmond Weavers and Spinners Guild. This past Spring, visitors to The Pull of the Net exhibit opening event were invited to choose a piece of fabric or material to weave into this community project, representing the cultural diversity of Canada’s west coast fishing industry. Participants chose from cedar strips, Japanese kimono fabric, Chinese silk, and Indian sari fabric, just to name a few of the materials.

Come see the colourful finished product at the Cannery and try to find the fabrics that ‘connect’ with you the most.
