The Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site is located in the historic village of Steveston, in the southwest corner of Richmond, BC. In the late 1800s, the Gulf of Georgia Cannery was just one of the many canneries along the shore at the mouth of the Fraser River. During this timeĀ theĀ tiny village was known as theĀ salmon canning capital of Canada.

Although the working canneries have all but disappeared fromĀ Steveston, there is still a lot to see and do! There are other historic sites of interest within walking distance to the Cannery, including the Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site, Steveston Museum, and Steveston Interurban Tram. Plan a day trip to enjoy a lunch at one of the many waterfront restaurants, or enjoy some of Steveston’s popular fish & chips to go!

A walk along the active Steveston harbour is not to be missed — watch the commercial fishing boats in action, as they unload their catch and nets after aĀ long tripĀ out at sea.Ā And don’t forget to pick up some fresh seafood at Steveston’s Public Fish Sales Float, sold straight off the boat!
