Bowling’s  fourth novel is a tale of two men, surgeon Anson Baird and soldier John, who met on the front lines during the American Civil War. Baird finds himself twenty years later, on a quest to find his mysteriously missing friend who has fallen victim to the questionable business ethics of the pioneer salmon canneries on BC’s West Coast. Anson is compelled to discover the fate of his missing friend, a fate inextricably linked to his own.
