Cannery Events this Weekend
There is plenty to do at the Cannery this weekend:
- Tin Can Challenge – runs from now until February 28th – The Tin Can Challenge is an event hosted by the Cannery as a way to raise awareness of the Food Bank’s ongoing need for non-perishables after the holiday season. Local Richmond youth, the Cannery, Gold Seal and Safeway, together have raised 600+ cans so far for the Richmond Food Bank. Now we turn the challenge on to you. We are trying to raise 1000 kg of food, and we can only do this with your help. Bring in a donation of a non-perishable food item to the Cannery, and receive two for one entry into the Cannery (second entry must be of equal or lesser value). View the tin can sculptures created by community centre youth groups from across Richmond, and vote for your favourite one.
- Steveston Winter Farmers and Artisans Market Sunday, January 22 – The market resumes this Sunday in the Cannery, so grab your toques and mitts and swing by to pick up bread, cheese, honey, and a variety of other delicious treats! Fill out a short visitors’ survey and be eligible to win a prize valued at $75.00 (inquire at the Cannery admissions desk). The market runs from 10am to 3pm, and will resume every second Sunday from now until mid-April.
- Chinese New Year – Year of the Dragon – The Chinese community played an important role in BC Canneries throughout history. As such we recognize their contributions in a variety of ways. This year, in honor of the year of the dragon, the Gulf of Georgia Cannery has organized a craft for kids. Bring your little ones to the Cannery’s craft area and learn how to make and decorate a dragon puppet. This activity will be available for two weeks starting Sunday, January 22, the eve of the Chinese New Year.
Hope to see you this weekend!
