Have you tried the “Cannery Experience” this summer?
Submitted by  D’Arcy, Heritage Interpreter
Back in May, the Gulf of Georgia Cannery officially launched our new Summer Season offer. Not only did we increase the frequency of our guided tours, but we also added numerous new public programs in order to make each visit to the site more engaging, educational, and enjoyable for every guest that walks through our doors.
As part of our Cannery Experience, we have characters in costumes and at least two Canning Line machine demos a day where you can see us interpreters turn on some of our canning machines dating from the 1940’s and 50’s.  Three times a day you can take a tour of our Herring Reduction plant that was operational from the 1940’s until 1979, and every hour at :45 past, guests can take part in the Salmon Taste Challenge. Not only does this give visitors the chance to try out two different species of salmon, but it is also a great opportunity to learn about the many species of salmon that inhabit the BC Coast.
If you haven’t taken part in this experience yet, don’t worry, there’s still time! The Cannery Experience summer offer ends on September 7th!
