This Cannery Christmas tree is about you and me!
The Cannery is getting into holiday spirit: trees throughout the Cannery are being decorated by the merchants of Steveston; Christmas lights are ready to be hung on the building with care; Santa is riding a wave, soon to arrive on the shores of Steveston; and preparations are underway to host holiday movies fit for the whole family. The Christmas spirit is creeping its way in, so get ready and let the fun begin!
The Festival of Trees, from Dec. 3rd to 23rd inside the Cannery, is a competition among the merchants of Steveston, where each participating organization uniquely dresses their own tree. Once decorated, we invite you to decide which tree is the best by voting for your favourite one.
This year, the Gulf of Georgia Cannery tree is special because we are enlisting the help of our visitors to participate in the decorating. All the ornaments will be handmade by the cannery staff to start, then we ask you to visit our craft station to make your own. Make one for us, one for you, one for a gift, and one for fun! If you are coming to this Sunday’s Steveston Winter Market, to have a photo taken with Santa Dec. 3rd, please visit the craft table and learn how to make a variety of paper craft ornaments.
