Tin Can Challenge – A Community Challenge

TinCan2011-gillnetter

The Tin Can Challenge is back again at the Cannery! Last year we prompted the community to participate in our effort to gather donations for the Richmond Food Bank. As a means to raise awareness forĀ Richmond Food Bankā€™sĀ ongoing need for donations beyond the holidays,Ā the Gulf of Georgia Cannery is hosting the Tin Can Challenge from now until February 28th, 2012. OverĀ this two month period, ourĀ challenge is to raise 1000 kg worth of food. Can we do it?

Next week be the first to view the tin can structures built by Richmond youth groups. The Cannery invited various community centre groups to participate in the Tin Can Challenge. The youth groups from Thompson Community Centre, South Arm Community Center, and Steveston Community Center have been gathering canned goods since December and brainstorming ideas for tin can sculptures they could create inside the Cannery. By Monday, January 23rd, the sculptures will be completed, and we invite you to check them out and vote for your favourite one.

Try your own hand at building a tin can sculpture!Ā Receive 2 for 1 admission to the Cannery when you bring a non-perishable food donation.
