Today is World Oceans Day!
There are many different ways in which you can celebrate and learn more about the world’s oceans through your community. World Oceans Day is celebrated globally, with each participating community honouring the oceans in their own way. The Gulf of Georgia Cannery will be presenting two films this weekend related to our current temporary exhibit on sustainability, Seafood for Thought:
- Saturday, June 9th, 2 PM – Sharkwater
- Sunday, June 10th, 2 PM- End of the Line
The Gulf of Georgia Cannery will also be coordinating a Great Canadian Shoreline Clean-up at Garry Point Park in September. Please join us in cleaning up the shores – sign up here.
The Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup is now one of the largest direct action environmental events in Canada, engaging tens of thousands of participants annually in every province and territory. Each year, the public support and general awareness of the program has increased, inspiring more volunteers to join in to make a difference. We hope you join us in making our 18th annual Shoreline Cleanup the biggest yet!
Our mission is to promote understanding and education about shoreline litter issues by encouraging Canadians to rehabilitate shoreline areas through cleanups.
Our vision is a fully engaged and committed Canadian public keeping all Canadian shorelines free from litter.
